Program Description:

Take your engineering studies abroad!

Lafayette is a proud provider of study abroad experiences for engineering students. Two faculty-led, semester-long programs are offered that allow traditional students to stay on schedule to graduate in four years. The programs are fully integrated with the engineering curricula, are taught in English (with the exception of language-based courses), and financial aid applies. These Lafayette faculty-led programs also include several cultural and academic excursions throughout the semester. The programs are currently hosted at:

Application Process

Engineering students who participate in one of the above programs typically do so in the spring semester of their sophomore year. When demand necessitates, the Office of International & Off-Campus Education will open a fall semester sophomore year program opportunity with St. Louis University Madrid to accommodate student numbers (the fall opportunity is not open to Civil & Environmental Engineers due to academic conflict).
The application cycle for the above programs typically opens in November of the student’s first year at Lafayette and closes in mid-February (please contact the Office of International & Off-Campus Education for specific dates).
During the application cycle, students will click the “Apply Now” button near the top of this page, they will select the “Various” program cycle, and they will complete all of the applications tasks required of them by the application deadline. Within the application, students will be given the opportunity to rank their preferences for a given program and given semester (i.e. Bremen Spring, Madrid Spring, Madrid Fall). No guarantee can be made that each student will be offered their first-choice program but preferences are weighed with serious consideration. Students should think carefully about which program they’d like to participate in and should speak to their academic adviser about good academic fit before completing the application.
Please note all students are subject to the eligibility requirements the College sets forth for students wishing to study abroad/off-campus for a semester. You can find information about eligibility here.
Once a student is offered placement on a program they will be required to confirm their commitment to the program by submitting a $500 non-refundable deposit. Further instructions on this step are provided by the Office of International & Off-Campus Education at the appropriate time.
